Tales of the Macabre by Paszionique Kelly

ACT 3 Scene 1
(The lights shine onto a girl's bedroom).
(Enter BRITTNEY, BLAKE, RYAN, RAINBOW, ROSIE, and LEA).
(The girls are dancing wildly before BRITTNEY shuts the music off).

LEA
Hey! Why’d you turn that off?
BRITTNEY
Because this is boring. Let’s do something fun!

(Blake jumped off the bed and stood in front of BRITTNEY).

BLAKE
Ok, what do you have in mind?

(BRITTNEY smirked mischievously).

BRITTNEY
What if we… played Ouija?

(BRITTNEY walked over to her bag and took the board out).
(BLAKE walked over and snatched the board away from BRITTNEY).

BLAKE
Where did you get this board from? Did you steal this from my basement?

(BRITTNEY smiled and shrugged).

BRITTNEY
Maybe… It’s not like you ever use it.
BLAKE
Yeah, because unlike you, I was raised not to use these things. They are dangerous.
LEA
Yeah. My mom once told me about how one of her childhood friends used one, and she ended up killing her entire family.

(BRITTNEY rolled her eyes).

BRITTNEY
Lea, that's just some made-up story your mom told you so you wouldn't be a rebellious teenager.

(BRITTNEY nudged ROSIE).

BRITTNEY
You know how Asian parents can be.

(ROSIE looked at BRITTNEY in anger before pushing her).

ROSIE
No, I don’t know how they can be 나쁜년 (bitch).

(ROSIE went to punch BRITTNEY in the face).
(LEA interferes, grabbing her arm).

ROSIE
Let me go! She can’t just say things like that.
LEA
I know, but don't stoop to her level.

(ROSIE snatches her arm from LEA before walking out of the room).
(ROSIE exits).

BLAKE
Great… This night is off to a great start.

(BRITTNEY walks up towards BLAKE).

BRITTNEY
What was all of that about?
BLAKE
Britt, you said something really insensitive and racist. You owe ROSIE and LEA an apology.
BRITTNEY
It's not my fault they can't take a joke.
BLAKE
You can't be serious? You can't go around saying things like that. They are your friends.

(BRITTNEY folds her arms).

BRITTNEY
Well, they shouldn't be that sensitive.

(BLAKE raises her hands in frustration).
(BRITTNEY walks to the center of the room).

BRITTNEY
Are we going to play or not?
RAINBOW
I don't think we should play; we could open ourselves up to something evil.
RYAN
Oh, come on, don't be such a Debbie downer.
RAINBOW
I'm not. I just don't think this is a good idea.

(BRITTNEY stood in front of RAINBOW).

BRITTNEY
Awe, are you scared of ghosts?
RAINBOW
NO!

(BRITTNEY jumped in happiness).

BRITTNEY
Good! So it's settled; we're playing.

(BRITTNEY got the board and planchette while everyone else sat down in a circle).

LEA
Shouldn't we wait for ROSIE?
RAINBOW
Yea, she's been gone for a while.
BRITTNEY
No. We are not waiting any longer. If she wants to miss the fun, then that is her choice.

(RAINBOW and LEA look at each other and frown).
(BRITTNEY placed the board onto the center of the floor).

BRITTNEY
Now, everyone puts two fingers on the board, and we can ask questions.
RAINBOW
Question is… Who or what are we asking questions to?
RYAN
Would you shut up and put your hand down?

(RAINBOW sighs before placing her fingers on the board).
(Everyone puts their hands down and moves the planchette around before stopping in the middle).

BRITTNEY
Hello? Are there any cute ghosts out there that wanna chat?

(The planchette doesn't move).

LEA
BRITTNEY! Seriously?
BRITTNEY
Fine, are there any ghosts out there? We have questions.

(The planchette moves quickly to “yes”).

BRITTNEY
Oh! You're an eager little ghost, aren't you?

(The planchette moves a little, then moves back to "Yes").

BRITTNEY
Ok…What's your name, Ghost... Person?
RAINBOW
Britt, you shouldn't ask questions like that.
BRITTNEY
Why? What's the harm in asking?
RAINBOW
Because if you say its name, You can release it.
BRITTNEY
Oh please, That's just a load of bs that your mom told you.
RAINBOW
It isn't a myth.
BRITTNEY
Whatever... I won't say it.

(All the girls looked down at the board and saw the ghost spell “dosie jonsol”(도시의 전설).
(As soon as LEA saw that name spelled out, She jumped from the circle in fright).

BRITTNEY
Dosie jonsol? What does that even mean?
RYAN
And why did you jump up, Lea?

(LEA continued to shake her head in fear).

LEA
Guys, let's stop this game! Please!
BRITTNEY
Why? It's just some stupid gibberish. No reason to be scared.

(Suddenly, the planchet began moving furiously around the board before flying off the board).
(ROSIE enters).
(ROSIE stands in front of the planchette).
(She picks it up).

ROSIE
What the hell happened?
RAINBOW
Genius over here pissed the Ghost off, sending the planchette flying.

(ROSIE hands the planchette to BLAKE before looking over at LEA).

ROSIE
What's wrong with LEA?
BRITTNEY
She's just being a little whiny bitch. She totally freaked out after reading the Ghost's name.
ROSIE
Name?
BRITTNEY
Yea, it was donkey jonesal or something.

(ROSIE furrowed her brows in confusion before realizing).

ROSIE
Do you mean… 도시의 전설 (dosie jonsol)?
RYAN
Yea, that's it. Do you know what it means?

(ROSIE began cursing in Korean).

ROSIE
Dosie jonsol is the romanized version of the Korean words "Urban" and "Legend" together. They mean "Urban Legend".
BRITTNEY
Okayyy… That still doesn't explain why Lea is practically pissing herself.
ROSIE
In Korean folklore, there is a demon named “Urban Legend”. It haunts anyone who reads its name aloud.
BLAKE
So Rosie, what happened to people who spoke this thing's name?
ROSIE
Well... They all die horrible deaths, and no one has said its name and lived to tell the story.
BRITTNEY
Please. It's just another one of those fake scary stories you like to tell Rosie.
ROSIE
Except it's not. It’s real.
RAINBOW
Ok, so how do we stop it?
ROSIE
I don't know if we can.

(Lights dim).
(ROSIE, LEA, RYAN, RAINBOW, BRITTNEY, and BLAKE exit).
(Lights shine onto NARRATOR).
